WASHINGTON D.C., December 15, 2006—Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns will address approximately 4,000 farmers and ranchers at the American Farm Bureau Federation's 88th Annual Meeting and Convention, Jan. 7-10, 2007, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Johanns will speak to Farm Bureau member families at the afternoon general session on Monday, Jan. 8. AFBF President Bob Stallman said he is looking forward to Johanns addressing U.S. farm and ranch families.
"We're pleased that Secretary Johanns is taking the time again this year to attend our annual meeting and speak to America's farmers and ranchers," said Stallman. "The address should be very informative, especially in light of the 2007 farm bill debate."
Fred Thompson to Deliver Key Note Address
Joining Johanns at the convention's general session on Monday, Jan. 8, is actor, attorney and former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson.
"Fred Thompson's career path gives him a unique perspective from which to address America's farmers and ranchers," said Stallman. "We look forward to hearing his insights on life in the power corridors of Washington and in the film and television industry."

Also on Monday, Jan. 8, cowboy singer and country performer Michael Martin Murphey will perform for Farm Bureau members. Prior to Murphey, cowboy poet and humorist Baxter Black will take the stage.
