AFBF Rallies Behind 25 x ’25 Vision

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 28, 2007 – The American Farm Bureau Federation today urged lawmakers to set an ambitious goal: supplying 25 percent of the nation’s energy from renewable sources by 2025. According to AFBF, the 25 x ’25 vision would create new economic opportunities, improve national security and curb greenhouse gas emissions.

“Today our nation is confronting one of our greatest challenges in decades: finding clean, affordable and secure sources of energy to meet the needs of the nation,” said AFBF President Bob Stallman. “America can meet this energy challenge through the realization of the 25x’25 vision. Our nation’s farms, forests and ranches can provide solutions from the land to meet our energy needs.”

Technological advancements in cellulosic ethanol and wind and biomass energy make a new generation of energy available for all Americans, according to Stallman. Farmers and ranchers have long been recognized as producers of food, feed and fiber. Today, U.S. agriculture can fill an important new role ‑ that of energy production.

“By producing energy right here at home we can generate increased farm income, stimulate rural development, and help improve air, water and soil quality,” said Stallman. “The American Farm Bureau Federation and U.S. agriculture are committed to that change to put us on course to producing 25 percent of America’s energy from renewables by 2025.”
